Maria Chalke Trauma Counselling & EMDR Therapy
Maria Chalke Trauma Counselling and EMDR Therapy
As my practice name suggests, I am a counsellor with a background in trauma counselling and offer EMDR therapy. My practice centres on my client’s needs and respecting their expertise in their own lives, I work from a feminist perspective and a trauma informed framework.
I have worked with clients who have experienced sexual assault and interpersonal violence for over 26 years and have a vast experience in working with and understanding the complexities of trauma on the body and mind. This includes acknowledging and working with the impacts of intergenerational trauma. My interest and skills are in trauma therapy, somatic processing, my passion is dreamwork as an insight to the subconscious.
I offer counselling to people who are experiencing any form of ongoing dysregulation, managing triggers that cause distress, anxiety, grief, depression, interpersonal relationship issues, phobias, and addiction.
I work with clients who wish to explore life changing life decisions and existential and spiritual questions.
I aim to create a space that is safe, which means my clients feel heard and seen, valued, not judged as we examine the layers that surround trauma and distressing memories.
Shame is so often attached to distressing experiences. Clients must feel held by the practioner, so that they can carefully and safely explore the blocks in their lives. Helping clients understand the link between the impact of trauma and ongoing anxiety.
My work draws from several methodology, sensorimotor psychotherapy, trauma informed therapy, and EMDR and influenced by internal family systems which is a therapy that understands how trauma fragments the self, and then creates challenges and blocks when the client is ready to change.
I hope to provide a warm therapeutic space by working alongside the client, aiming to level the power imbalance of client and therapist as much as is possible.
I think EMDR is perfect therapy at any time but especially after you have worked with other modalities and are ready to shift your trauma responses/triggers.
These are a couple of websites and articles about the efficacy of EMDR therapy

I work with people 17 years and over, and am conscious of making my space a safe place for people from Indigenous communities and LGBTIQA+ communities.
I welcome self-referrals.
