Theatre Royal – New Owners – Congrats to the new owners for their recent purchase of Castlemaine’s Theatre Royal. Felicity Cripps, Tim Heath, Andrea Distefano, Campbell Hynam-Smith and Jono Hill have come together and plan to breathe new life into this popular live music and cinema venue. Maggie Fooke will hand over early next week to new owners and everyone’s welcome to attend Maggie’s Farewell Garden Party to celebrate the end of an era, and the start of something new for our iconic Theatre Royal! The new team of five plan to close its doors for a week or so, to spruce it up for their big launch on Boxing Day. Stay tuned for event details by following the Theatre Royal website and Facebook page.
Bookshop Map – With five local bookshops in the town, Castlemaine’s Catherine Koerner of Books Plus decided to put together a handy postcard map showing visitors a local “bookshop trail”. Catherine collaborated with the other shopkeepers and with assistance of a designer friend, Rebecca Rose of Kelly and Rose Design, the Bookshop Trail postcard was developed (shown below). How great is that!
The Visitors’ Miscellany – Hats off to local business duo Lizzie Geddes from Chops for Tea and Jane Goodrich from the Castlemaine Vintage Bazaar for the town’s new map – The Visitors’ Miscellany. Designed and written by Lizzie, with input from a whole swag of businesses around town, the map’s aim is to entice Melbourne folk up the Calder and give visitors a guide to the hip places to shop, eat, visit and experience in the shire. Featuring over 50 local businesses, the low down on local pools, the anti-clinal fold, notable trees, the best slippery dip in central Victoria and links to over 70 local Instagram accounts, the Visitor’s Miscellany offers a local quirky insight into the wonder that is Castlemaine.
The Good Table closes its doors – In November, award winning restaurant The Good Table closed its doors after seven years. Their amazing food, service and an atmosphere will be surely missed for a long time. Wishing the team every success in their new ventures.
