In early 2021 the Old Bank Corner in Maldon was transformed to become a pop-up outdoor dining space for people to meet. Mount Alexander Shire Council oversaw and supported this project via state government funding for numerous outdoor spaces and parklets across the shire, creating a safe space away from the footpaths and road, and still feeling part of the town’s energy. In this case, Bank Corner has views up and down both of Maldon’s main streets!
BMA saw the opportunity to enter the new space at Old Bank Corner in Maldon in the 2021 Mainstreet Australia Awards, and in late November BMA accepted the award, on behalf of all stakeholders, for Best Regional Main Street! This was a collaborative exercise where Jacqueline and Gen (BMA committee) worked with Kate Gamble (former President of Maldon Inc), to write and submit the award application.
Anna Winneke and the team at The Salvage Yard were tasked with the design and installation work of the Old Bank Corner as well as the other outdoor sitting areas in the shire as part of this project. Anna, Kate and Gen met up with Castlemaine Mail for a photo opportunity and you can read full details of this award win HERE.
