Sustainable Architects
[Materiality] + [Sustainability]
Natural, Solar-Passive Homes and Interiors for Thoughtful, Healthy Living.
Sustainable Architects is a Central Victorian Architecture practice led by Registered Architect Rachel Low, offering Architectural and Interior Design services for New Homes, Additions and Renovations.
Based in a mudbrick studio in Newstead, within native and fruit gardens, the practice works towards creating calm, healthy homes shaped by Sustainability, Solar-Passive Design, low-impact materials and a practical understanding of regional living.
The practice has extensive experience designing for rural, regional and environmentally sensitive sites, including Bushfire-prone areas, Environmental Overlays, Septic Systems, off-grid and partly serviced homes. The work is grounded in reading the land carefully, working with what is already there, and creating homes that are resilient, resourceful and deeply connected to place.
Rachel has extensive experience in the Design, Construction and Detailing of Hempcrete buildings, alongside a strong interest in Recycled, Natural and Low-Impact Materials, including mud brick, rammed earth and strawbale. She has worked closely with Owner-Builders and welcomes collaboration with skilled, resourceful homeowners who want to be actively involved in the making of their homes.
